My So Called Llife

"My So-Called Life " is a group that draws its influence from the rock and pop-punk genres. While still identifying and embracing the simplicity and basic fundamentals of each style, the songs paint a broader picture, extending them beyond the usual four walls. The overall nature of the band is that which is also reflected in its members - one of fast paced; high energy fun, unique yet accessible on a broad spectrum.

"My So-Called Life " began when lead guitarist Oumi Kapila was hired to compose the music for a small film project. In need of a vocalist to complete several tracks he'd written for the film score, Oumi unsuccessfully auditioned a number of singers before calling up an old work colleague, Mike Nayar. Mike, who had spent the better part of the last 10 years fronting some of Perth's great bands, jumped at the chance to work with Oumi once again and the partnership was formed.

Their collaboration was only intended to be a temporary one but Mike and Oumi soon discovered they had a natural ability to write for the Rock/Punk genre. The two decided to form the band officially under "My So-Called Life " as the name seemed to capture the bizarre circumstances that brought these two together. They spent their first few months locked away developing their ideas working closely with producer as well as second guitarist in MSCL Anthony Cormican and as repertoire grew, the time soon came to expand.

Mike, Oumi and Anthony scoured the local music scene for the best young up-and-comers and managed to find a group of passionate and driven musicians like themselves to fill the remaining spots in the band. The added influences of Chris Reeve (Drums) and Gian Jaramillo (Bass) pushed the band into a new and stronger direction, solidifying the group and forming a strong foundation for "My So-Called Life. " The launch of their first single One Of Those Things recorded at 301 studios Sydney and Crank Recording studios in Perth was meet with rave reviews, received national radio play and the accompanying video clip had small success on local and international tv.

Now the boys from My So-Called Life have their sights set on larger things with the finished album out 2013.

Anthony is a guitar player/producer and singer. He has to date played over 3000 gigs including performances at Madison Square Garden, House of Blues (NY) and toured to Kuwait and Afghanistan playing for the defence forces. He has worked with award winning acts such as Birds of Tokyo, Selwyn, James Morrison, Oscar nominee, Peter Templeman and recorded for Shawn Stockman (BoyzIIMen), The Game, Michael White (Thompson Twins) amongst many others. His home is with My So-called Life and a good bloody Mary. Anthony abuses Ibanez guitars.

As a taxidermist Mike Nayar is an exceptional musician and songwriter, fronting Australian rock act 'My So-Called Life.' Mike has spent many years NOT receiving training from prestigious schools of music all around the world, culminating in VERY little time actually spent studying the delicate ins and outs of his craft. Yet in over a decade of successfully performing around the nation, he has managed to work with some of the industry's greats. Forging a solid reputation for his passion, professionalism and a self taught music ability worthy of any scholar or graduate.

Chris Reeve doesn't love music, he is music. Having an obsession with rhythm and percussion he finds himself constantly surrounded by it. From finding beauty in the metallic clang of a champagne bucket, to jamming along with the ticking of insects and petrol pumps. His vast musical adventures have led him around the nation and has since become the devoted drummer of rock group 'My So-Called Life.' When his hands aren't tapping, he enjoys playing guitar, writing music and making ridiculous videos. Chris prefers eggs benedict.

Oumi got into guitar playing at a young age without even knowing that chicks dig guitar players, thereby certifying himself as a genuine 'music geek'. Often mistaken for Nikki Sixx due to his distinct haircut, Oumi has shared the stage with some of the worlds most respected musicians, including Glen Sobel (Alice Cooper), Freddie Ravel (Santana), Hussain Jiffry (Earth Wind and Fire), Eric Marienthal (Yellowjackets), Bryan Beller (Steve Vai) and many more. Oumi does occasionaly eat cheese, but only if it has been melted.

After years of trying to figure out the best cure for a hangover, Gian Jaramillo stumbled across a guitar with only 5 strings. Strange? After getting to know this 5 string creature he began to develop a passion for its low frequency vibrations and has not let the thing out of his sight since. After many years of getting to know each other, Gian finally developed bass face. This newley discovered power took him around the world performing in many different bands specialising in Rock and jazz. After years of searching for the right family to express his love for music, he landed in My So Called Life, and has never looked back.
