Kris Petersen
Kris Petersen is a true veteran of the Australian Music Industry. Having performed to global crowds of up to 10,000. Kris has shared the stage with artists that include Alice Cooper, Orianthi, Daryl Braithwaite, Marcia Hines, The Screaming Jets, The Choirboys, Mental As Anything, Bruce Kulick (KISS), Leo Sayer, Pretty Boy Floyd and many more. With a degree from AIM (Australian Institute of Music) and over 15 years as a professional musician, Kris has toured nationally and internationally with some of the best cover, concept and original bands that Australia has to offer.
Hailing from a family of professional musicians, Kris began playing guitar at the age of 5. Cutting his adolescent teeth on artists such as AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Van Halen and Joe Satriani, Kris completed his schooling and went onto study Jazz at AIM; combining the technical and theoretical aspects of playing with his love of Rock. This fusion and personal style saw Kris become one of the most in demand players in Sydney.
In 2008, Kris was instrumental in forming the rock band “The NEXT”. Initially signing a development deal with Sony Music Australia, the NEXT recorded an EP which debuted at number 5 on the Aria charts. Renaming the band to ‘SYNDICATE’, Kris, along with fellow SYNDICATE band mates, signed a full recording agreement with Sony Music Australia in 2010. The debut album was recorded in Los Angeles with Grammy award-winning producers Brandon Friesen (Nickleback, Sum 41, Avril Lavigne), Jeff Blue (Linkin Park, Matchbox 20, Korn) and Scott Humphrey (Motley Crue, Metallica, Rob Zombie). The first and title single “Shout” was released in November 2010 and reached No.1 on the ARIA charts, with the second single “All My Life” released in June 2011. Kris toured with the band nationally in June 2011 playing 25 shows Australia wide, capped off with a support slot for the international Alice Cooper tour in 2012.
Kris also furthered his professional experience by sharing the studio with guest musicians that included Matt Sorum (Guns n Roses, Velvet Revolver, the Cult), Brent Fitz (Alice Cooper, Slash), Gil Sharone (Stolen Babies, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Puscifer), Marcos Curiel (POD) and Rowan Robinson (Dio) and touring independently as Kris Peterson.
On completion of the Alice Cooper tour, SYNDICATE took a scheduled break to give Kris time for his ventured solo works and completed “The Devil Wears Stuff”. The personal album featuring 10 instrumental tracks written whilst touring. From hard rock to orchestral and jazz, the album is a showcase for Kris’ multi genre influence and capabilities. The first single “Answer to my Prayer” is due for release in April 2013. Further his second solo album project "Kris Petersen" will be a show of his lyric and song writing skills.
From humble beginnings as a novice to rock stardom, Kris has also recently founded The Lick Factory – a uniquely comprehensive all ages and experience level video tutorial program for learning the instrument. Consisting of 10 individual topics and 26 dedicated episodes from theory and technique to reading music and counting, the system offers students easy-to-follow steps for complete mastery of the guitar. “The Lick Factory” is due to go live on 15 April 2013.
Kris makes his Kris Petersen debut at the Stone Age Festival 2013.
“I love what I do,” says Kris. “People say that music is their life. Music isn’t just my life, it’s my whole being.”
